|Continuing on from the learning students have gained in yr7 into new materials. This project will look at the emergence of smart materials and their uses. Students will learn about polymorph and its different applications before designing and making a product using polymorph.|
|Assessment: Designing and Making task. Students design ideas in their exercise books will be assessed, with a focus on how they use tone and annotations. Technical and problem solving skills will be judged by assessing both the type of hand stitch e.g. cross-stitch, backstitch And how precisely this has been completed on their final ugly doll. Sewing machine use along with the realisation of their ugly doll design will be considered in their final grade.||Key Words and Terms|

|Students will construct and then program using logicator software, a cyberpet. They will learn the process of breaking a problems down into sequential steps by means of flowcharts and programming it into a PIC.
The project involves using an 8 pin PICAXE microcontroller to create an electronic pet with LED eyes and a piezo sounder voice that reacts to touch (via a push switch) and light (via a miniature LDR).|

|This project will encompass the full design process, from Brief through to Evaluation. Students will design and make a former that can be used to create a mould suitable for making chocolates. They will be required to consider their market, and make sure that your designs, shapes, and sizes are suitable for both the customer and the process.|
|Assessment: Students will be assessed on their use of 3d sketching skills and how effective they have been in creating design ideas that meet the specification. 3d sketching activities will be in their exercise books. A judgment will be made of the skill students have shown in shaping their final former and then creating the final chocolate mould.||Key Words and Terms|

|Students will be introduce to an industrial standard 3d design software (SolidWorks) and develop their skills through a sequence of tutorials and will finish this unit by producing a complete design.|
|Assessment: Students will produce a 3d drawing of a product using an industrial standards 3d software. The outcome will be stuck in their books and assessed.
Students will be required to demonstrate their knowledge through completing a differentiated technical task using SolidWorks. A print screen or other method of accessing their final SolidWorks design will be assessed. Problem solving skills and the ability to independently overcome technical problems will also form part of the accessed activity.

|Students will learn a range of wood working skills involved with the production of a wooden product. Students will also personalise their product by designing the front of the money box.|
|Assessment: The focus of this assessment is on the precision they show when marking and cutting out their wood along with their design ideas in their exercise books of the moneybox. There will be a focus on isometric drawing along with how creative their design ideas are. They will also be judge on how effectively they are able to carry out tasks e.g. do they use resources effectively to instruct their learning.||Key Words and Terms|

|In this project students will have to design and make a clock that is free standing and can be disassembled so that it could be stored in an a5 envelope. Students will be provided with a quartz working mechanism for their clock. Students will learn about the work of Charles Rennie Mackintosh and their design ideas will reflect his design style.|
|Assessment: Students will be assessed on the quality of their design communication, the level of creativity they demonstrate within the constraints of the design specification and their level of technical skill at using 2d design. Both their design ideas in their books and their final 2d Design, will be used to generate a final grade.||Key Words and Terms|
