In this unit students will learn how drugs and alcohol affect not only the person taking them but others around them. Students will look in to how drugs are linked to crime and how the media influences their ideas about different substances.

County lines
When drug gangs from big cities expand their operations to smaller towns, often using violence to drive out local dealers and exploiting children and vulnerable people to sell drugs
Child sexual exploitation
When a child or young person is exploited they're given things, like gifts, drugs, money, status and affection, in exchange for performing sexual activities.
Child criminal exploitation
Where gangs target vulnerable children to get them to carry out criminal activity.
Prescription drug
A drug that legally requires a medical prescription to be dispensed.

In this unit students will consider how we can deal with grief and loss through our lives. They will look at the stages of grief and will understand how best to support those who are suffering loss.
Grief
Sadness and loss following the death or loss of a loved one.
Impact
The affect that something happening has on someone.
Condolence
Expressing your sorrow for someone who has experienced loss.
Empathy
Putting yourself in someone else's shoes to feel their emotions.
Sympathy
Feeling for someone who has experienced something negative.

In this unit students will develop their understanding of the complex problems currently facing the UK. Students will learn about the effects of ethnic diversity in modern Britain. They will also study the issues surrounding street crime, including guns and knife crime, riots and gangs.
Ethnic Diversity
People of different ethnic backgrounds, races, religions living in the same place.
Multi cultural
People of different cultures living in the same place.
Community cohesion
People from the same community/are coming together to get things done peaceably no matter what their ethnic or cultural background.
Street Crime
Street crime is a loose term for any criminal offense in a public place. According to London's Metropolitan Police Force, Robbery, often called 'mugging', and thefts from victims in the street where their property is snatched and the victim is not assault

A crime motivated by racial, sexual, or other prejudice, typically one involving violence.

In this unit students will consider the important issue of sexual consent. They will look at the law surrounding sexual consent and will consider how an individual’s wishes should be respected.

Controlling someone or something to your own advantage, often unfairly or dishonestly.

In this unit students will learn to look at themselves and their place in society before looking at the many types of prejudice and discrimination they will encounter in society. Students will go on to look at racism, sexism, ageism and religious prejudice.
