welcome to king's sixth form

Sixth Form NOTICE

With regret, we have recently notified parents and students at King's School that the governing body intend to close the King's Sixth Form with effect from summer 2027. Their decision has been ratified by the Russell Education Trust Board, and we will now commence the formal process for closing the Sixth Form, which will involve a period of consultation.

Our Sixth Form Open Evening, scheduled for Tuesday 11th November 2025, will therefore not be going ahead. We are sorry for any disappointment this may cause prospective students and their families.

Celebrating the Success of Our Founding Sixth Formers

We were incredibly proud to celebrate the achievements of our Year 13 students who were the founding cohort of our Sixth Form as they received their A Level results.

They have not only met the academic challenges of A Levels with determination, but have also contributed immensely to shaping the culture, community, and spirit of our Sixth Form.

We have watched these students grow into thoughtful, motivated, and capable young adults, ready to take the next step into university, apprenticeships, or the world of work.

It has been a pleasure to have been part of their journey, and we are excited to see what they will go on to achieve in the future.

We are delighted that all our Year 13 leavers are moving onto further education opportunities or employment. We have students starting a range of courses in Pharmacy, Mathematics, Natural Sciences, Economics, Science, Modern Languages, Psychology, Finance and investment, Interior Architecture, Sports Business and Coaching. They will be heading to locations including the University of Brighton, King’s College London, Warwick, UCL, Portsmouth, Sussex, UCFB and students taking up apprenticeships locally and abroad.

A Special Day for Year 13 – Celebrating the First King's Sixth Form Cohort

We were delighted to mark a truly special occasion as our Year 13 students came together to celebrate the end of their journey as the very first cohort of King’s Sixth Form. It was a day filled with joy, reflection, and pride as we looked back on all they have achieved—both individually and together as a pioneering group.

From their first days stepping into the Sixth Form to the friendships, leadership, and academic growth they’ve shown, these students have set the tone for what it means to be part of King’s Sixth Form.

We can’t wait to celebrate their successes on Results Day later this summer!

Rutherford Appleton Laboratory

Our Year 12 and 13 physics students took a trip to Rutherford Appleton Laboratory. Students took part in workshops on particle physics and had a tour of Diamond, the largest particle accelerator in the UK. Diamond is used to create high intensity X-rays for use in a wide variety of imaging experiments, including imaging COVID-19.

The trip was very inspiring for students, learning about a wide variety of careers in relation to particle physics.

National Apprenticeship Week 2025

We have been proud to support National Apprenticeship Week this week here at King's Sixth Form. This is aimed at celebrating everything that is brilliant about apprenticeships and the opportunities these create for success. UCAS

Well done to the Year 13 students who have sent off their UCAS statements and are now focusing their efforts on their next set of mock exams.

Future's Talk

Our sixth formers enjoyed an assembly run by Max from Life education. This was an opportunity for the students to think about why they do certain things and to encourage them all to develop motivations that will have lasting effect on them, whatever they do in the future.

Fun Fridays!

The Sixth Form has been buzzing with creativity and engagement as Fun Fridays keep everyone on their toes.

At the end of term, we had the pleasure of welcoming Caroline Palmer and her team from Deaf Kidz International, who delivered a captivating British Sign Language (BSL) session. Students participated in an interactive "Sign and Dine" experience, where they learned to order food using sign language.

To build on this, all Sixth Formers are now enrolled in an introductory BSL online course. Upon completion, they will receive a CPD-certified certificate, marking their achievement. As a follow-up, Ms Tamplin will launch a BSL Club in the New Year, open to all year groups. The club will run during Friday lunchtimes and promises to be a fantastic opportunity for everyone to learn more about sign language and the Deaf community. Looking ahead, we are also planning fundraising efforts for Deaf Kidz International during Deaf Awareness Week in May.

Year 12 Barista Training and Team Building

Our Year 12 students enjoyed two days of Barista training which resulted in them gaining an AQA certificate. The students covered drinks menus, sensory development, espresso extraction and more! It also offered an opportunity for the students to gain additional personal skills and awareness whilst still keeping all the content centered on coffee.
The training was provided by Pro Baristas who are located in the centre of Brighton.

Geography Field Trip

Our Year 12 and 13 A-Level geography students headed up to Devil's Dyke for a geography field trip. They explored the geology of the area and, it's formation and historical land use. We conducted a series of experiments. The data will be analysed and mapped using GIS technologies.
