We believe that outstanding pastoral care is one of the fundamental cornerstones to ensuring students feel safe and happy throughout their secondary education. Every member of staff has a role to play in pastoral care and we have a clear pastoral structure to ensure each student is fully supported during their time at King's.
The school is divided into year groups, each with its own Head of Year:
Year 7 Mr Walker
Year 8 Mrs Moscrop
Year 9 Mr Kent
Year 10 Mr Parker-Sibun
Year 11 Mr McCardie
Each student is placed in a tutor group with a form tutor who takes a special and supportive interest in that group. Tutor groups for 2024-25 are as follows:

The school operates a rolling tutor system which means that we aim for each tutor to stay with the same students throughout their five years at King’s.
We welcome parents contacting us, usually via the Head of Year, whenever they feel it is necessary to do so. Parents can also contact members of the Senior Leadership Team directly when the need arises. Parent consultation evenings are held annually which also help strengthen this vital partnership.
A team of Year 10 and 11 learning mentors are trained to provide a support service for Key Stage 3 students. Other Year 11 students also support our duty staff at lunch time to develop their leadership skills.
A range of support services are available for students including: staff mentors; Pastoral Officers; an Attendance Officer; and a weekly clinic run by our school nurse. Each school day, a group session (with a specific focus) is run. For example we run groups to support students who struggle with anxiety, self-esteem and anger management. Should the need arise, referrals to external agencies are made to support individuals if they would benefit from additional support beyond that which is available within school.
We also have a team of specialist Child Protection Officers who deal with all safeguarding matters.
We recognise that high self-esteem, confidence, supportive friends and clear lines of communication with a trusted adult help all of our students. We therefore aim to maintain an ethos where our students feel secure, are encouraged to talk, and are listened to.
Secondary school is a place where children develop and grow as young adults. At King’s we support that transition in a loving, respectful and forgiving environment.
