volunteer with us

Like many schools, we often work with volunteers to offer additional opportunities for our students - for example through mentoring and church groups- and to offer members of our wider community the chance to build up their skills and experience before seeking a job in a school.

What volunteer roles are available?

Volunteer librarian- Our library is staffed outside of school hours by volunteers from our community. Jobs include lending and returning books, helping students find something to read and generally making sure the space is neat, tidy and welcoming. Full training on our library software is provided.

Visiting Speakers- Year 9 careers day always includes visits from external speakers, who talk to students about their career path and what their job is like. We welcome offers from anyone with an interesting job who would be happy to come to talk! Please contact Mr Walker via b.walker@kingsschoolhove.org.uk for more information. We would also love to hear from any parents/carers or members of the community who would be willing to come to give a talk during the school day, after school or at an event. Recent examples of speaks include our MP Peter Kyle who gave a talk to students as part of LGBT History Month.

Mentoring- We currently work with local charities and some individual volunteers to provide mentoring for students. We are always looking for other partners to expand this provision, so if you have mentoring experience and would be interested in getting involved, please contact us.

How do I go about volunteering?

If you would like to volunteer at King's, please contact our HR team via HR@kingsschoolhove.org.uk. Please note- for roles which include regular contact with students (e.g. librarian, mentor) a full application and vetting process is required. Our HR colleagues will be able to advise you as to what volunteering we can arrange at the time and the relevant vetting arrangements.

Please note- We are completely committed to safeguarding the welfare of our students. Those who work with us are expected to share this commitment, which will be fully tested as part of the selection process. All offers of a volunteering role will be subject to the individual undergoing the appropriate vetting checks, including an enhanced barred list check and DBS clearance (as appropriate).
