sixth form courses

King's Sixth Form provides A-level and some Level 3 BTEC equivalent courses, enabling options and pathways for students to go on to Higher Education or high quality alternatives. We also offer students the opportunity to study for an EPQ.

 

Our minimum entry requirements are:

  • For A-Levels: Five GCSE Grades 5-9, including English and Maths, and more specific requirements for some courses, as detailed below;

Course Entry Requirements
Fine Art Grade 5 in GCSE Art and a passion for Art, Craft and Design.
Biology Grade 6 in GCSE Biology or two Grade 6s in GCSE Trilogy (combined science). Grade 6 or above in Mathematics would be beneficial.
Business At least five 4s at GCSE including at least a 4 in English Language or Maths.
Chemistry Grade 6 in GCSE Chemistry or two Grade 6s in GCSE Trilogy (combined science). Grade 6 or above in Mathematics would be beneficial.
Computer Science Grade 5 in GCSE Mathematics.
Drama Grade 5 GCSE English and some performance experience essential.
Economics Grade 5 in GCSE Mathematics.
English Literature Grade 6 in both GCSE English Language and English Literature, as well as a genuine passion for the written word.
French Grade 6 in GCSE French, as well as a love of languages, other cultures and the diversity of the World.
Geography Grade 5 in GCSE Geography and Grade 5 in Mathematics.
History Grade 6 in GCSE History as well as a Grade 5 in English Language, and a genuine interest in History and the world around you.
Mathematics Grade 6 in GCSE Mathematics.
Further Mathematics Grade 8 in GCSE Mathematics and A-Level Mathematics must be taken too.
Media Studies  Grade 5 in GCSE English Language and GCSE English Literature.
Music Minimum 5 GCSEs at Grade 9-4 or Grade 4 and above. Music at Grade 6 or
evidence of performance skills.
Physics Grade 6 in GCSE Physics or two Grades 6 in GCSE Trilogy (combined science). Grade 6 or above in Mathematics is essential. It is recommended that students wishing to study Physics consider taking A-Level Mathematics.
Psychology Grade 6 in GCSE English Language and Mathematics.
Religious Studies Grade 6 in GCSE Religious Studies or Grade 5 in English Language if Religious Studies has not been taken.
Sociology Grade 5 in GCSE English Language or Literature and Mathematics.
Spanish Grade 6 in GCSE Spanish, as well as a love of languages, other cultures and the diversity of the World.
EPQ (Extended Project Qualification) This course allows you to independently investigate, in depth a topic of your choice.
It is worth the equivalent of an AS-level. This is particularly recommended for students thinking of applying to university courses with competitive entry requirements.
