Spring Term Rotation 2: Invasion 4 - Basketball

Students will study a range of fundamental basketball skills knowledge. Students will be able demonstrate a range of passing, receiving, defending, moving, outwitting opponents and shooting skills. In addition to this, students will develop an understanding of the rules within the game of basketball.

Spring Term Rotation 1: Gymnastics

Students will develop a range of fundamental gymnastic skills in isolation as well as demonstrating them in a full context environment. Students will further develop a range of rotational fundamental skills as well as transferring them from the floor to a flight and vaulting scenarios.

Autumn Term Rotation 1: Fitness

Students will study the different methods of training that are used to train for sport and for health. Students will also investigate the effect that different training methods have on heart rate and introduce the idea of aerobic and anaerobic training zones.

Continuous Training
Continuous training, also known as continuous exercise, is any type of physical training that involves activity without rest intervals.

Fartlek Training
Fartlek, which means "speed play" in Swedish, is a training method that blends continuous training with interval training. Fartlek runs are a very simple form of a long distance run. Fartlek training “is simply defined as periods of fast running intermixe

Interval Training
Physical training consisting of alternating periods of high- and low-intensity activity.

Circuit Training
Circuit training is a form of body conditioning or resistance training using high-intensity aerobics. It targets strength building and muscular endurance. An exercise "circuit" is one completion of all prescribed exercises in the program.

Frequency
How often something happens.

Intensity
Strength and persistence.

Progression
Moving forwards; improving.

Overload
To put strain on the body; to perform to excess/tipping point.

Measurement of how long something takes.

Summer Term Rotation 1: Athletics

Students will continue to develop their technique in throwing, jumping and running events in athletics, with a greater focus on the technical skill need in throwing and jumping events. Students will develop their tactics within athletic races with the focus on trying to improve their personal best level.

Rotation
Sequence; succession; sharing responsibility over even spaces of time.

Axis
An imaginary line about which a body rotates.

Momentum
The quantity of motion of a moving body, measured as a product of its mass and velocity.

Centre of Gravity
A point from which the weight of a body or system may be considered to act. In uniform gravity it is the same as the centre of mass.

Force
Strength or energy as an attribute of physical action or movement.

Explosive Power
The rate of force development is at the maximum for any type of muscle action is explosive power.

Phases
A distinct period or stage in a process of change or forming part of something's development.

Point of explosive strength.

A swift movement; passage through the air.

Summer Term Rotation 2: Striking and Fielding

Students will build on the core skills learnt in year 7 and will develop sport specific skills in cricket, rounders, stoolball and softball. Students will focus on developing their hand-eye coordination needed for batting and catching, as well as the variety of bowling techniques needed in different striking and fielding sports.

Back spin
Reverse rotation of a ball causing it to bounce or roll backward or stop short. Also called underspin.

Bowled out
A batsman is bowled. Bowled is a method of dismissing a batsman in the sport of cricket. This method of dismissal is covered by Law 30 of the Laws of cricket. A batsman is out bowled if his wicket is put down by a ball delivered by the bowler.

Obstruction
The action of unlawfully obstructing a player in the opposing team.

Innings
Each of two or four divisions of a game during which one side has a turn at batting.

Run Out
A batsman is run out if at any time while the ball is in play no part of his bat or person is grounded behind the popping crease and his wicket is fairly put down by the opposing side.

Run Up
In cricket, a run-up is the approach a bowler makes when preparing to deliver the ball. The ball must be delivered from behind a bowling crease, but preparation to bowl the ball can be done any way the bowler wishes.

Power
A powerplay is the name for the fielding restrictions in limited-overs and Twenty20 cricket.

Reaction Time
The speed at which a player acts following a move from an opposing team e.g. batting a ball thrown by the opposing team.

Coordination
Moving hands, eyes, legs etc. together to ensure a positive outcome in sport or physical activity.

Accuracy
The quality or state of being correct or precise.

Autumn Term Rotation 2: Table Tennis

Students learn and develop the fundamental of the serve, push and drive shot. These shots will be played on forehand and backhand with the option to include different types of spin as well. Basic rules will also be learnt and how to score in a game.

Autumn Term Rotation 3: Invasion 3 - Football

Students study the different skills needed in football - range of passing, moving with the ball in different scenarios, tackling and shooting. Students will develop how to use basic principles of attack and defence to plan strategy and tactics for football.
