Key Stage 3 Key Stage 4 Sixth Form

Term 1-2: GCSE Food, preparation and Nutrition NEA One Task

NEA One (non-exam assessment) is a food investigation task set be the examination board and is worth 15% of the total GCSE mark. Pupils are to undertake an investigation, document their findings and submit an assignment.

Pupils will be assessed on their ability to: apply knowledge and understanding of nutrition, food, cooking and preparation, research ingredients and how they work, carry out practical investigations linked to hypothesis and predictions, analyse and evaluate different aspects of nutrition, food, cooking and preparation.

Term 3-5: GCSE Food, Preparation and Nutrition NEA Two Task

NEA Two (non-exam assessment) is a food preparation task set be the examination board and is worth 35% of the total GCSE mark. Pupils are required to demonstrate the food preparation skills they have learnt throughout the course. This will be a maximum assignment of 20 sides of A4 and includes a 3 hour practical assessment.

Students will be assessed on: Research and analysis of life stage, dietary groups or culinary traditions related to the task. Demonstrating technical skills when preparing 3-4 dishes. Planning a final menu with a time plan and costings. Making of three final dishes showing high technical skills. Analysing and evaluating final dishes.

Term 6: GCSE Food, Preparation and Nutrition Written examination

The written examination is 1hour 45 long and 50% of the total GCSE mark. Students will revise the topics they have learnt in year 10, do test papers and quizzes to prepare.

The examination will cover the following topics: Food nutrition and health, food science, food safety, food choice, food provenance.
