Key Stage 3 Key Stage 4 Sixth Form

Weeks 1 to 6: Ma vie sociale

In this unit, pupils learn to describe the social life of a teenager, including social media, opinions, music, going out and excuses, ask others to participate in activities using “tu veux + infinitive”, say what they did last weekend using the perfect tense.

There will be two assessments. Dependent upon the class, this will include one unseen reading or listening and one unseen speaking or writing. Decisions are made by the class teacher dependent upon class strengths and areas for development. Details will be on Show My Homework as will a grammar and vocab sheet to prepare for this assessment. Assessments could take up to three lessons and will be testing how well students can describe their social life, give an opinion about music and social media as well as describing the activities they have done last weekend using the past tense.

Weeks 13 to 18: À l’horizon

In this unit, pupils learn to talk about their future plans, careers and globalisation using the future tense. They also learn to describe their childhood using the imperfect tense.

There will be two assessments. Dependent upon the class, this will include one unseen reading or listening and one unseen speaking or writing. Decisions are made by the class teacher dependent upon class strengths and areas for development. Details will be on Show My Homework as will a grammar and vocab sheet to prepare for this assessment. Assessments could take up to three lessons and will be testing how well students can talk about their future plans, careers and globalisation using the future tense. Students will also be tested on how well they can describe their childhood using the imperfect tense.

Weeks 19 to 24: Spécial de vacances

In this unit, pupils learn to talk about their holidays in more detail, including leisure activities and theme park experiences, and what you need for a successful holiday. They also learn to describe and review a past holiday and to look at holiday camps.

There will be two assessments. Dependent upon the class, this will include one unseen reading or listening and one unseen speaking or writing. Decisions are made by the class teacher dependent upon class strengths and areas for development. Details will be on Show My Homework as will a grammar and vocab sheet to prepare for this assessment. Students will be tested on their ability to describe their holiday, what activities they have done, why it was interesting. Students will also describe a past holiday.

Students are required to learn about the experiences of life when abroad and are exposed to the traditions and lifestyles of different cultures.

Weeks 25 to 30: Moi dans le monde

In this unit, pupils learn to talk about their rights and responsibilities, their place in the world, commercialisation and what constitutes happiness.

There will be two assessments. Dependent upon the class, this will include one unseen reading or listening and one unseen speaking or writing. Decisions are made by the class teacher dependent upon class strengths and areas for development. Details will be on Show My Homework as will a grammar and vocab sheet to prepare for this assessment. Students will be tested on their ability to discuss their place in the world, ethical shopping, their legal rights and their responsibilities.

Weeks 31 to 36: Preparation for GCSE

Students will revise key grammar and structures required for GCSE, including:

- Past Tense

- Present Tense

- Future Tense

- Conditional, Imperfect and Pluperfect tenses

- High-frequency words

- Challenging vocabulary

They will also work on all 4 skills individually (listening, speaking, reading and writing)

Students will undertake 4 assessments: Listening, Speaking, Reading and Writing based upon the whole of the Year 9 course.

In this unit, students learn to discuss different body parts, illness and sport, talk about health and wellbeing using the future tense, and talk about healthy eating with “il faut” + infinitive.

There will be two assessments. Dependent upon the class, this will include one unseen reading or listening and one unseen speaking or writing. Decisions are made by the class teacher dependent upon class strengths and areas for development. Details will be on Show My Homework as will a grammar and vocab sheet to prepare for this assessment. Students will be tested on their ability to discuss healthy lifestyles and well-being using the future tense.
